Obsidian Entertainment is reportedly making a significant change to its long-term roadmap. According to a new report, the studio has decided not to move forward with a sequel to Avowed, choosing instead to focus its efforts on developing a brand-new Fallout title.
The report claims the decision was made as Xbox reshuffles resources across several first-party studios. Rather than expanding the world of Avowed with a second installment, Obsidian is said to be allocating developers to a new Fallout project that has become a higher priority within Microsoft’s gaming division.
Although Avowed introduced players to the world of Eora earlier this year and received a generally positive reception from critics, it appears that wasn’t enough to secure a direct follow-up. If the report is accurate, the franchise will be put on hold while the studio returns to the post-apocalyptic universe that helped establish its reputation.

The possibility of Obsidian developing another Fallout game has already generated excitement among fans. The studio remains best known for Fallout: New Vegas, a title that continues to be regarded as one of the strongest entries in the franchise. A new Fallout developed by Obsidian has long been one of the community’s most requested projects.
It’s worth noting that none of this has been officially confirmed. Neither Xbox nor Obsidian Entertainment has commented on the report, meaning the status of both the rumored Fallout project and the planned Avowed sequel remains unverified.
Until an official announcement is made, players should treat the information as speculation rather than confirmation. However, if the report proves accurate, it could represent one of the biggest strategic shifts for Obsidian since joining Xbox Game Studios.
Has Avowed 2 been canceled?
Not officially. The claim comes from a recent report, but neither Obsidian nor Xbox has confirmed it.
