The update Epic Games users have been asking for is finally here

Epic Games has spent years building its storefront into a real competitor, adding free weekly titles, exclusives, and new features one after another. But despite all that progress, there was always one strangely absent option players kept asking about, a basic social feature every major platform except Epic already had.

For the longest time, gifting simply wasn’t possible on the Epic Games Store. Players could buy games for themselves, claim giveaways, redeem codes but surprising a friend with a title they’d been wanting? No chance. It became one of the most requested updates on the platform, repeated across forums, social media, and even Epic’s own community posts.

That finally changes now. Epic has rolled out a new “Buy as Gift” option directly on game pages, letting users send paid games, DLC, and bundles straight to anyone on their Epic friends list. You can choose to deliver it instantly or schedule it for later, perfect for birthdays or holiday surprises.

The recipient then has two weeks to accept; if they decline or ignore it, the sender automatically receives a refund. At launch, the feature doesn’t cover in-game currency, subscriptions, or free titles, but the core gifting system is fully functional.

The timing is almost too perfect. With the holiday season coming up, gifting is one of the biggest engagement drivers for digital storefronts. And now, Epic finally fills a gap that kept many players saying, “Why doesn’t the store have this yet?” It may seem like a small addition, but for a platform trying to match and eventually surpass; its competitors, these quality-of-life steps matter.

Whether this new feature shifts user behavior or strengthens Epic’s position in the PC space remains to be seen, but the direction is clear: The store is becoming more complete, more social, and more aligned with what players expect in 2025.
