CD Projekt RED has announced a new expansion titled Songs of the Past, which will bring Geralt of Rivia back for another adventure. The DLC is currently planned for release in 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
The project is being developed together with Fool’s Theory, a studio that includes several developers who previously worked on The Witcher franchise. Although the studio hasn’t revealed major story details yet, the title alone is already creating heavy speculation among fans about Geralt’s past and possible returning characters.
The announcement came as a major surprise because The Witcher 3 was long considered complete after the release of Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. Both expansions became some of the most praised RPG DLCs ever made, which is why expectations around this new expansion are already extremely high.
Reports also suggest the reveal may have happened earlier than planned after references to the DLC were discovered through CD Projekt’s launcher system before the official announcement was made.
Since launching in 2015, The Witcher 3 has remained one of the most successful RPGs in gaming history, selling over 60 million copies worldwide and continuing to attract players years after release.
With Geralt officially returning once again, Songs of the Past is quickly becoming one of the biggest RPG announcements of the year.
So, what would you want to see most from a brand-new Witcher 3 expansion?
