Electronic Arts has paused development on Project Lotus, a game associated with The Sims franchise, as part of a broader restructuring of its development priorities. The decision was announced on October 21, 2026, alongside changes affecting several other EA projects, including the closure of BioWare and the cancellation of its early-development Mass Effect project.
Rather than continuing development on multiple initiatives, EA plans to concentrate its resources on Project Evergreen, which the company believes deserves more time to reach its full potential. However, the publisher has yet to reveal detailed information about either project.
Project Lotus is reportedly connected to Project Rene, a multiplayer-focused Sims experience designed with mobile platforms in mind. Project Rene was previously associated with plans to expand the franchise beyond its traditional single-player format, introducing more social and multiplayer elements. However, EA has not officially confirmed the full relationship between the two project names.
Project Evergreen, meanwhile, remains largely a mystery. EA has not revealed its gameplay features, supported platforms, or expected release window. It is also unclear whether the project will replace Project Lotus entirely or represent a different direction for the franchise.
The decision does not mean the end of The Sims. EA continues to invest in the series and has emphasized its long-term potential as part of its lifestyle gaming portfolio. Support for The Sims 4 is also expected to continue, while the company reassesses its plans for future experiences.
For now, Project Evergreen is EA’s main priority for The Sims, while Project Lotus remains on hold. With no release date or detailed announcement available, players will have to wait for further updates to understand what the publisher has planned for the franchise’s future.
