Rockstar Games has broken its silence on the recent GTA 6 leaks, addressing the unauthorized gameplay footage that has been circulating online over the past week. The studio apologized to fans and acknowledged that the leaked material was not how it wanted players to experience the game.
In a statement shared with the community, Rockstar said seeing gameplay from Grand Theft Auto VI spread this way has been extremely upsetting for the development team. The studio also admitted that the game has taken longer than expected to reach this stage, particularly when it comes to finishing development and preparing official gameplay footage.
Rockstar also confirmed that work on GTA 6 is now nearly complete, suggesting that the game is approaching the final stages of development. The studio emphasized that it wants to deliver an experience that meets the expectations of players rather than rushing the game to release.
The recent leaks have also affected how some fans will experience the game. Rockstar acknowledged that certain spoilers may already be circulating because of the leaked footage, but encouraged players to wait and experience the finished game themselves when it launches.
The timing of the statement is particularly notable because Rockstar’s long-awaited GTA 6 Extended Look is scheduled to premiere tomorrow, August 27. The studio said it is very excited for players to finally see the presentation, which took longer than originally planned to prepare.
Despite everything that has happened over the past week, Rockstar has not indicated any change to the game’s release plans. Grand Theft Auto VI remains scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026.
