Marathon – Season 3 has been delayed

Bungie is changing its plans for Marathon’s upcoming content, giving the studio more time to develop and test some of the game’s larger features. Instead of sticking to the previously planned seasonal schedule, Bungie wants to focus on improving the experience based on player feedback.

As part of the new roadmap, content originally planned for September will now arrive with the Symbiosis update on December 8. Before that, Marathon will receive an October update focused on refreshing progression and the game’s current systems.

The October 6 update will reset player progression and the in-game economy. It will also include:

  • A new Rewards Pass
  • Quality-of-life improvements
  • Balance and tuning updates
  • The limited-time return of Vault Breaker

The reset follows progression issues during Season 2: Nightfall, with Bungie looking to create a better foundation for the game’s next phase. The studio will also use the period before Symbiosis to test new ideas and gather additional player feedback.

The larger Symbiosis update will arrive on December 8 and introduce Marathon’s first permanent PvE experience, giving players another way to explore and progress beyond the game’s traditional PvPvE extraction gameplay.

The update will also include:

  • A refreshed Perimeter experience
  • A new social space with a firing range
  • A new Runner shell
  • An experimental PvP Team Deathmatch mode
  • Improvements for new players

Bungie says Symbiosis will be the first step in a broader evolution for Marathon, with more updates planned for March and beyond. The studio is also moving away from a strict seasonal structure to give major features more time for development and testing.

For now, players can expect the Nightfall refresh on October 6, followed by Symbiosis and Season 3 on December 8.
