GTA 6 is breaking pre-order records on Xbox

Grand Theft Auto VI continues to attract huge interest ahead of its release, with the game already breaking pre-order records on Xbox. Microsoft has now addressed the game’s performance following discussions about how its pre-orders are split between Xbox and PlayStation.

Xbox Chief Strategy Officer Matthew Ball said the company is “very happy” with GTA 6’s pre-order performance, confirming that the game is already breaking records on Xbox. He also indicated that the company expects the game to continue setting new records as launch gets closer.

Microsoft has not revealed the exact number of Xbox pre-orders, but the company says its share of GTA 6 pre-orders is currently in line with its overall share of the console market. This suggests that Xbox is seeing a strong response despite the game’s larger presence in discussions surrounding PlayStation.

Third-party estimates give us a better idea of how many copies have already been reserved. As of September 8, GTA 6 was estimated to have reached around 5.28 million pre-orders across PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

The estimated breakdown currently looks like this:

• PS5: Around 4.06 million pre-orders
• Xbox Series X|S: Around 1.21 million pre-orders
• Total: Around 5.28 million pre-orders
• Estimated revenue: Approximately $516 million

Based on these estimates, Xbox accounts for roughly 23% of GTA 6’s total pre-orders, while PlayStation makes up the remaining 77%.

The estimated figures also suggest that GTA 6’s pre-orders have continued to grow steadily since they opened. However, these numbers are not official figures from Rockstar Games, Take-Two, or Microsoft, meaning the actual number of pre-orders could be different.

With nearly two months remaining before launch, there is still plenty of time for these numbers to increase. GTA 6 is scheduled to release on November 19, 2026, for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

For now, Microsoft’s confirmation makes one thing clear: GTA 6 is already breaking Xbox’s pre-order records before the game has even launched.
