Assassin’s Creed Hexe director leaves Ubisoft

Ubisoft’s flagship franchise is going through another internal shift and this time, it’s happening behind the scenes. The creative director of Assassin’s Creed Hexe, Clint Hocking, has left Ubisoft as part of a broader restructuring within the Assassin’s Creed brand.

The company has confirmed that development on Hexe continues, with leadership responsibilities now aligned under Jean Guesdon, recently appointed Head of Content for the franchise. Guesdon previously directed Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and Assassin’s Creed Origins, two entries widely credited with redefining the series at different points in its lifecycle.

Hocking’s departure arrives during a period of wider structural changes inside Ubisoft. The publisher has been reorganizing its major IP under a more centralized strategy, alongside long-term planning efforts that reportedly involve investment collaboration with Tencent. The Assassin’s Creed franchise in particular has been positioned as a cornerstone of that strategy, with multiple projects planned under a unified roadmap.

Assassin’s Creed Hexe has long been teased as a darker and more experimental installment in the series, rumored to explore 16th-century Europe with a stronger horror tone. That positioning made its creative leadership especially significant, as Ubisoft signaled a tonal shift away from the more traditional RPG-focused formula of recent entries.

For now, the studio maintains that Hexe remains in active development with an experienced team in place. Assassin’s Creed has reinvented itself more than once over the past decade.
