A new privacy concern has emerged around ARC Raiders, after it was discovered that the game was unintentionally logging private messages from Discord.
The issue was first highlighted by engineer Timothy D. Meadows, who found that when players linked their Discord accounts to the game, certain Discord activity could be written into the game’s local log files. In some cases, this included private Direct Messages, which were stored in plain text on the player’s computer.
The problem appears to stem from the game’s integration with Discord’s SDK. Instead of filtering incoming events from the platform, the system logged the data directly into the game files, which meant private conversations could appear in the logs while the game was running.
Developer Embark Studios has since responded to the situation by releasing a hotfix to disable the logging behavior. According to the studio, the information that appeared in the logs was only stored locally on users’ machines and was not sent to external servers or collected by the developers.
While the issue has now been addressed, it has raised questions about how third-party integrations are handled in modern games. Features like Discord connectivity are increasingly common, but they also introduce new technical complexities that developers must carefully manage.
