Activision is making another major change to the Call of Duty ecosystem. Beginning July 7, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will no longer be accessed through the Call of Duty HQ launcher, becoming a standalone game across supported platforms.
Since its release, Black Ops 6 has been integrated into the Call of Duty HQ application alongside other recent entries in the franchise. While the unified launcher was designed to bring multiple Call of Duty titles together in one place, it also received criticism from players who preferred launching individual games without navigating through a shared hub.
Starting next week, Black Ops 6 will be separated from Call of Duty HQ, allowing players to install, launch, and update the game independently. This means users who only play Black Ops 6 won’t need to access the HQ launcher every time they want to jump into multiplayer, Zombies, or the campaign.
The move is also expected to improve overall convenience when managing storage and downloads. Instead of installing or updating content tied to the Call of Duty HQ ecosystem, Black Ops 6 will have its own standalone application, making it easier for players to manage game files and future patches.
Although Black Ops 6 is leaving the launcher, Call of Duty HQ will continue to serve as the central hub for other supported Call of Duty titles. Activision has not announced any additional games that will be removed from the application, making Black Ops 6 the first major title to transition back to a standalone format.
The decision comes after months of community feedback regarding the Call of Duty HQ experience. Many players have requested separate installations for individual games, and Activision’s latest update suggests the publisher is beginning to move in that direction.
Will I still need Call of Duty HQ to play Black Ops 6?
No. Once the update is available, Black Ops 6 can be launched as its own standalone game.
