Crimson Desert’s new system is different than expected

Crimson Desert is getting a new extraction feature in an upcoming update, but it’s not the kind of system many players initially imagined.

After hearing about an “extraction mechanic,” some players assumed the game was introducing a mode inspired by extraction shooters or PvPvE gameplay. Instead, the feature is actually connected to gear progression and upgrading systems.

The new mechanic will allow players to retrieve materials previously invested into equipment upgrades. Rather than permanently losing valuable resources after enhancing gear, players will now have a way to recover part of those materials and reuse them elsewhere. This could make experimenting with different builds much less punishing.

The system appears aimed at reducing frustration during late-game progression, especially for players who avoid upgrading gear because of the risk tied to rare materials. By giving players more flexibility, the update could make progression feel smoother and less restrictive overall.

Alongside the extraction system, the update is also expected to include additional content such as new mounts, gameplay tweaks, and other quality-of-life improvements. Many of these changes are reportedly based on player feedback gathered since launch.

While the feature may not completely change the game, it could still become an important improvement for long-term progression and customization.

So, do you think this extraction system is a smart addition for Crimson Desert, or were you expecting something bigger?
