Steam users can claim a western shooter game for free

Steam is dusting off its shelves again, and this time it’s handing out something with bullets, bourbon, and a whole lot of attitude.

Before the big-budget holiday rush begins, players can saddle up for a different kind of adventure. The cult-favorite indie shooter 12 Is Better Than 6; a black-and-white, hand-drawn trip through the Wild West is currently free to claim on Steam for a short time. Once you add it to your library, it’s yours to keep forever.

Developed by Ink Stains Games and first released in 2015, the game quickly carved out a loyal following for its scratchy pen-and-paper aesthetic and unrelenting pace. You play as a runaway gunslinger trying to survive the American frontier, where every shot counts and every reload feels like a gamble. It’s stylish, brutal, and wonderfully unpredictable; imagine Hotline Miami rewritten as a Spaghetti Western comic.

The developers haven’t specified how long the free offer will last, but these giveaways tend to disappear faster than a gambler’s luck in Dodge City. The promotion seems tied to Ink Stains’ next project.Though for now, 12 Is Better Than 6 is back in the spotlight, and it’s the perfect excuse to revisit one of indie gaming’s roughest gems.

So, if you’ve got room in your Steam library (and a taste for the lawless), now’s the time to draw first.
After all, in the West, twelve really is better than six. So, are you riding into this free gunfight, or letting the sun set on one of indie gaming’s wildest Westerns?  Let’s meet in the comments and stay tuned to both X and VGNW for the latest updates.
