One of the most influential figures in the survival horror genre is preparing his next project. Shinji Mikami, best known as the creator of Resident Evil, is reportedly developing a new AAA title at his recently formed studio.
After leaving Tango Gameworks in 2023, Mikami established a new development studio called Unbound. The studio is said to be working on a large-scale project that will introduce an original IP, rather than continuing an existing franchise.
According to available information, the upcoming game is being developed for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, and PC, with the team reportedly using Unreal Engine 5 to power the project. While specific details about the gameplay or setting have not yet been revealed, the studio is aiming to deliver a high-quality AAA experience.
Mikami is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of modern horror games. In addition to creating the original Resident Evil, he also directed Resident Evil 4, a title that helped redefine action-horror gameplay and influenced countless games that followed.
For now, the new project remains largely under wraps. However, with Mikami leading the development of a new AAA IP, expectations from fans and the industry are already beginning to build.
