Red Dead Redempiton officially announced for current-gen consoles

Red Dead Redemption has held a special place in gaming history ever since its debut in 2010. Its world-building, atmosphere, and storytelling set a new standard for Western games and for years, fans have been asking the same question: “When will it come to modern hardware?”

Today, that wait is officially over. Rockstar has announced that Red Dead Redemption and its iconic expansion Undead Nightmare are coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. And these aren’t simple ports. The new versions feature free upgrades, visual enhancements, and progress carryover, letting players continue their adventure with modern performance and polish.

This marks a major moment for the franchise. Until now, RDR never received a true next-gen treatment, leaving fans to rely on backwards compatibility. With PS5 and Series X|S, players can expect smoother performance, cleaner visuals, and faster loading. The Switch 2 release is especially noteworthy, this could become one of Rockstar’s first major moves on Nintendo’s upcoming hardware.

Rockstar has also confirmed that the game will be playable through Netflix, iOS, and Android.
We already covered the mobile side in our previous VGNW report, where RDR’s Netflix/mobile launch was detailed. With today’s announcement, the picture is complete: Red Dead Redemption is expanding simultaneously across next-gen consoles and mobile platforms.

Undead Nightmare will be included in every version, with the same visual improvements and progress-carryover support. As December approaches, Red Dead Redemption is preparing to reach one of the widest audiences in its history.
