Highguard has gone offline

Highguard is an online multiplayer shooter that focuses on team-based combat, hero-style abilities, and large-scale PvP encounters. The game launched earlier this year for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, and PC, aiming to establish itself in the increasingly crowded live-service shooter market.

However, the title’s lifecycle turned out to be extremely short. The game has now gone offline after its servers were shut down, bringing Highguard to an end just 45 days after release.

Developed by Wildlight Entertainment, the project attempted to stand out with fast-paced gunplay, unique character abilities, and competitive multiplayer modes. The studio itself drew attention before launch because it was founded by developers who had previously worked on major multiplayer titles.

Despite this, the game struggled to maintain a consistent player base following its launch. According to the developers, the number of active players was not high enough to sustain the live-service structure of the game, leading the team to make the decision to shut down the servers.

Because Highguard was built as an online-only title, the shutdown means the game is no longer playable. The situation once again highlights how challenging it can be for new live-service games to survive in a market already dominated by established multiplayer titles.

Why did Highguard shut down?

According to the developers, the game could not maintain a large enough player base to support its live-service model.
