Call of Duty movie finds its director

Activision’s long-discussed Call of Duty movie adaptation is finally becoming a reality. Developed by Paramount Pictures, the project has resurfaced after years of silence and it’s not aiming for a direct retelling of the games, but rather to capture their essence of chaos, loyalty, and warfare on the big screen.

According to Paramount executives, the film will be “much more than a standard military action movie.” The goal is to translate the explosive energy and cinematic intensity of the games into film form. The script is being written by Taylor Sheridan, best known for Sicario, Yellowstone, and Hell or High Water. Sheridan’s signature focus on human drama and moral tension promises to give the story emotional depth, highlighting the human cost of war.

While plot details remain under wraps, sources close to the production suggest the story will center on a modern-day special forces operation, a tone that echoes Modern Warfare and Black Ops.

The biggest reveal, however, is the director: Peter Berg, known for Lone Survivor, Deepwater Horizon, and Patriots Day. With Berg at the helm, the Call of Duty movie aims to blend gritty realism with large-scale spectacle, signaling a return to authentic, high-intensity military cinema.

Casting details have yet to be announced, but filming is expected to begin in the first half of 2026. Will Call of Duty manage to be as powerful on the big screen as it is behind the controller? Share your thoughts and stay tuned to both X and VGNW for the latest updates.
