Call of Duty brings a blackout-inspired mode to Warzone

A new battle royale experience is heading to Call of Duty: Warzone, and it’s bringing back a familiar name with a fresh twist. Activision has officially introduced Black Ops Royale, a Blackout-inspired mode reimagined for Warzone’s Avalon setting.

Designed as a modern evolution of the original Blackout formula, Black Ops Royale aims to blend classic survival-driven gameplay with Warzone’s large-scale mechanics. Players will drop into Avalon with a clear objective: Outloot, outlast, and survive. The mode promises a stronger emphasis on tactical looting, strategic positioning, and high-stakes engagements across the map.

While full gameplay details have yet to be revealed, the branding strongly suggests a return to elements that defined the original Blackout experience, including a more grounded pace and a heavier focus on survival rather than constant respawns. If executed well, Black Ops Royale could serve as both a nostalgia-driven callback and a meaningful evolution of Warzone’s battle royale formula.

Best of all, the mode will be available for free starting March 13, keeping in line with Warzone’s free-to-play model.

With Warzone continuing to evolve, Black Ops Royale may mark the next major shift in how players experience large-scale combat on Avalon.
