AION 2 dominates Steam following its launch

AION 2 has made a huge impact following its global launch, quickly attracting hundreds of thousands of players and becoming one of the biggest MMORPG launches of the year.

The free-to-play MMORPG officially launched worldwide on October 5, following an early access period for players who purchased a Founder’s Pack. Once the game became available to everyone, its player count skyrocketed.

AION 2 reached a peak of 397,905 concurrent players on Steam, while the total number surpassed 400,000 when players using NCSOFT’s PURPLE platform were included. This is more than double the game’s early access peak of 171,530 players.

The game’s launch has also seen it climb to the top of multiple Steam charts, including the Top Sellers, Popular New Releases, and Trending Free categories, highlighting the strong interest surrounding the MMORPG.

Part of the game’s appeal comes from its large open world, detailed visuals and MMO-focused gameplay. Players can freely fly across the world, explore different environments, take part in PvE and PvP combat, and even dive underwater. The world is also significantly larger than the original AION, giving players plenty of space to explore.

AION 2 is currently available for free on Steam and NCSOFT’s PURPLE platform. The global release covers North America, South America, Europe and Asia, with support for multiple languages.

While the launch numbers are impressive, the real challenge for AION 2 will be maintaining this momentum in the weeks and months ahead. For now, however, the MMORPG has enjoyed a massive start, with more than 400,000 players jumping into the game simultaneously.
