Saudi Arabia reportedly considers EA and Savvy Games merger

Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) is reportedly considering a potential merger between Electronic Arts (EA) and Savvy Games Group, according to a new report. While no final decision has been made, the move could further expand Saudi Arabia’s influence across the global gaming industry.

The potential deal would bring EA and Savvy Games Group together under a single structure, combining EA’s extensive portfolio of games and franchises with Savvy’s growing collection of gaming investments. Discussions are reportedly still in the early stages, meaning the plans could change before anything is officially announced.

The possibility comes shortly after EA was acquired by a consortium made up of PIF, Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners in a deal worth approximately $55 billion. The transaction turned EA into a privately held company and gave PIF a significantly larger role in one of the world’s biggest gaming publishers.

Savvy Games Group has also been expanding its presence in the industry through major acquisitions and investments. Backed by PIF, the company owns Scopely, which operates major mobile titles including Monopoly GO!, while it has also built a strong position in esports and other areas of gaming.

Bringing the two organizations together would therefore create a particularly large gaming business with access to a wide range of markets. EA already controls major franchises such as EA Sports FC, Battlefield, The Sims, and Apex Legends, while Savvy’s portfolio provides additional strength in mobile gaming and esports.

The potential merger is also being considered as Savvy continues to expand its portfolio. The company is reportedly pursuing the acquisition of Moonton, the Chinese developer behind Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, in a deal that could be worth around $6 billion. The completion of that deal could play a role in the timing of any future plans involving EA and Savvy.

For now, however, there is no confirmed agreement between the two companies. PIF is still evaluating the possibility, and it remains unclear whether the discussions will eventually lead to a formal merger.

If the deal does move forward, it would represent another major step in Saudi Arabia’s increasingly ambitious push into the global gaming market, while potentially creating one of the largest gaming organizations in the world.
