Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 officially revealed

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 has finally been officially revealed, and this year’s entry is bringing several major changes to the franchise.

One of the biggest surprises is that Modern Warfare 4 will completely skip PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, making it one of the first modern Call of Duty releases focused entirely on current-generation hardware.

The game is currently confirmed for:

• Xbox Series X|S
• PC
• Nintendo Switch 2

The Nintendo release is especially notable because it marks Call of Duty’s return to Nintendo platforms after many years away from the company’s systems.

Infinity Ward is once again leading development, with the new campaign reportedly centered around a large-scale military conflict involving North and South Korea. Early details suggest the story will feature multiple perspectives, covert operations, and a darker overall tone compared to previous entries.

Modern Warfare 4’s multiplayer is also introducing several gameplay changes, including:

• Brand-new multiplayer maps
• Returning Prestige progression
• Expanded Gunsmith customization
• A new gunplay system
• Larger DMZ extraction gameplay support

The developers also appear to be pushing the game toward a more tactical style overall, with reports suggesting movement mechanics will feel slower and more grounded compared to recent Black Ops titles.

Another major change affects Warzone, as Activision has reportedly confirmed that support for last-generation console versions of the battle royale will eventually come to an end following Modern Warfare 4’s launch period.

With a current-gen focus, the return of DMZ, and Call of Duty finally arriving on Switch 2, Modern Warfare 4 is already shaping up to be one of the franchise’s biggest transitions in years.
