In the early hours of Subnautica 2, few resources are more important than Silver Ore.
You’ll need it for advanced crafting, base upgrades, electronics, and several progression systems. The problem? Early-game silver can feel surprisingly rare if you don’t know where to look.
Thankfully, there are a few reliable spots close to the starting area.
Best early silver location (North of the Lifepod)
One of the easiest places to farm silver early is:
- Roughly 200 meters north of your starting lifepod
Once you arrive, look for:
- Deep cracks and jagged openings in the terrain
- Small silver nodes scattered around the area
You’ll also find:
- Larger silver deposits
- Breakable resource chunks containing multiple materials
This is one of the safest and most reliable early-game farming locations.
Second Silver spot (South Cliff Area)
Another useful location is:
- About 200 meters south of the starting lifepod
- Near a large cliff edge biome
Here, you’ll spot:
- Multiple mineral deposits
- Silver-containing resource formations
However, there’s one catch. Many larger deposits can’t be mined immediately.
To break them open, you’ll need:
- The Sonic Resonator tool
Without it, you’ll only be able to collect smaller surface nodes.
Still, this area becomes extremely valuable later if you build your base nearby.
Best Long-Term method: Scanner Station
Once you’ve progressed further, the best way to farm silver is by building a:
- Scanner Station
After selecting Silver Ore in the scanner menu:
- Nearby deposits appear on the map
- Resource markers are added directly to your HUD
This makes farming dramatically easier.
Scanner Station requirements
To build a Scanner Station, you’ll need:
- Copper
- Quartz
- 2 Silver Ore
A tiny bit ironic. The machine designed to help you find silver first demands silver as tribute. The ocean respects comedy timing.
You’ll also need crafting unlocks for:
- Copper Wire
- Wiring Kits
- System Chips
Silver is used in:
- Electronics
- Advanced gadgets
- Base systems
- Mid-game crafting recipes
You’ll burn through it faster than expected, so stockpiling early helps a lot.
Silver can feel frustrating to find at first, but once you know the nearby crack systems and cliff deposits, gathering it becomes much easier. And once the Scanner Station comes online, the entire ocean starts feeling less like survival horror and more like underwater logistics management.
Which, honestly, is half the charm of Subnautica. Terror, wonder, and spreadsheet energy in equal measure.
Have you already built your first underwater base, or are you still living the floating-lifepod goblin life?
Where is the best early silver location?
Around 200 meters north of the starting lifepod.
