Second edition of Steam Community Awards is now live!

Community interaction has always been one of Steam’s strongest pillars, and Valve continues to refine how players recognize and support each other’s contributions. With its latest update, Steam has officially launched the Second Edition of Steam Community Awards, marking a significant shift in how appreciation is expressed across the platform. The update not only introduces a brand-new set of awards, but also redefines their purpose, cost structure, and overall role within the Steam Community ecosystem.

12 brand-new Community Awards Iintroduced

According to the official announcement, the original set of Community Awards has been fully retired. In their place comes a fresh collection of 12 newly designed awards, each featuring unique illustrations and animations. These awards can be used to highlight valuable community content such as user reviews, guides, forum posts, screenshots, artwork, Workshop mods, and even Steam profiles.

Awards no longer transfer Steam points

One of the most notable changes in the Second Edition is the removal of Steam Points transfers. Previously, awarding content also granted points to the recipient, functioning as a form of tipping. Valve states that this system unintentionally favored attention-driven content, rather than thoughtful or creative contributions. Going forward, Community Awards are designed purely as a signal of appreciation and visibility, rather than a points-based reward.

Unified pricing across all awards

To simplify the system, all Community Awards now cost the same amount: 500 Steam Points each. This change removes price-based decision-making and allows users to focus solely on choosing awards that best represent their appreciation.

Awards Showcase updated on Steam profiles

The Second Edition awards are fully integrated into the Awards Showcase on Steam profiles. This showcase tracks both the number of awards a user has given and received, combining data from both the First and Second Edition systems. It offers a clearer snapshot of a user’s engagement and impact within the Steam Community.

With these changes, Steam aims to foster a more balanced, appreciation-focused environment for community-driven content.
