GTA 6 price is set: Rockstar isn’t planning to overprice it

GTA 6 isn’t even out yet, but it already feels like the entire gaming world is living inside its orbit. Every tiny detail becomes a debate topic; the trailer, the map, GTA Online’s future and lately the spotlight has been fixed on one question above all: How much will it cost?

Rumors suggesting Rockstar might push the game to a $100 price tag have definitely rattled players, but someone who knows Rockstar from the inside has stepped in with a far calmer outlook. Former Rockstar developer Mike York doesn’t see the studio making an overly aggressive pricing move with GTA 6. Instead, he believes Rockstar will likely stay close to the industry’s current AAA standard, meaning the game will probably launch somewhere around the familiar $70 range rather than breaking records for the wrong reasons.

York’s reasoning feels pretty grounded. GTA isn’t the kind of franchise that needs shock pricing to survive. It’s one of the biggest entertainment brands on the planet, and it’s almost guaranteed to sell millions regardless. Because of that, he doesn’t think Rockstar would risk sparking backlash with a needlessly high base price. If there’s going to be extra monetization, it’s much more likely to come from special editions, bonus content, and GTA Online bundles instead of pushing the standard version into uncomfortable territory.

Nothing is official until Rockstar actually speaks, so all of this still sits in the realm of expectation rather than confirmation. Even so, hearing a measured perspective from someone who understands how Rockstar thinks definitely helps cool things down a little.

Do you think that Rockstar will keep things reasonable, or will GTA 6 rewrite the conversation once again? We’ll find out soon enough. Stay tuned to VGNW and follow us on X for every update.
