Sony seems to be slowly redrawing the boundaries of what “PlayStation hardware” means. While recent updates have focused on cloud integration and software improvements, yesterday’s State of Play: Japan Special hinted at something much bigger, a continued expansion into gaming peripherals built to match the PS5’s power.
The showcase opened with familiar beats; game trailers, regional partnerships, and accessory teases. But halfway through the broadcast, Sony quietly pulled the curtain on a new device that immediately caught players’ attention; a sleek display glowing under the PlayStation blue.
That reveal turned out to be a 27-inch QHD 240 Hz PlayStation gaming monitor, complete with HDR support and a unique charging hook for the DualSense controller. It’s Sony’s latest move to merge PC-level performance with console-friendly design. The monitor supports up to 240 Hz on PC and 120 Hz on PS5, positioning it as a serious contender for competitive and cross-platform players alike.
While the design fits perfectly into the PlayStation ecosystem, its real appeal lies in function; ultra-low latency, crisp QHD resolution, and a refresh rate that can keep up with the chaos of Call of Duty or Helldivers 2.
Sony describes it as “a display that brings the precision of PC gaming to the comfort of console play.”
Pricing details remain under wraps, but Sony confirmed that the monitor will launch for PS5 and PC later this year. A new kind of PlayStation experience is clearly on the horizon, one where the screen itself feels like part of the console.
