In a first for the furniture giant, IKEA’s Atlanta store in the United States hosted an official Tekken 8 tournament, blending esports with furniture promotion in an unexpected way. Players battled it out right in the middle of the showroom’s display area, with the grand prize being a gaming chair and desk set.
A total of 12 competitors joined the event, each fighting to secure their spot on the leaderboard. The reward, a gaming chair and desk combo, was designed to showcase IKEA’s new “gaming room” furniture collection. Representatives from MomoCon, one of the Southeast’s biggest gaming conventions, were also present to support the event.
IKEA’s move marks a shift in the brand’s approach to gaming culture. The real-time tournament atmosphere inside the store wasn’t just for shoppers, it aimed to bring the gaming community directly into the retail space. The gaming desks and chairs weren’t just prizes; they also served as centerpieces for the event, blurring the line between competition and showroom display.

The event went beyond just gameplay: Visitors could try out the new gaming furniture line, watch the tournament live, and take photos in social media-friendly corners designed for sharing. With this initiative, IKEA successfully merged gaming and esports culture with the in-store shopping experience.
